Art Journaling in Edinburgh, Scotland with Jane Bumar

My intention is to inspire creativity, nurture connection, and empower transformation through mindful retreats that honor wisdom, spark joy, and celebrate the art of renewal.

This is your invitation to vagabond away to Scotland with Jane Bumar and I. You may know Jane as SepiaAndGlitter on Instagram. (She’s pretty fabulous and we had a marvelous time together last year on the French Riviera!)

On our Scotland getaway, we’re going to create a collaged, sketched, and utterly personal chronicle of travel memories. We’ll explore Edinburgh’s authentic and off-the-tourist-track neighborhoods with supportive tips to empower your own adventures.

Vagabond away to Scotland with us

Your Scottish journey includes:

  • Vintage Travel Journal Workshop

With Tammy’s guidance, you’ll make your own vintage travel journal imbued with the found and discovered - ephemeral whispers from the road. The adventures you have, the person you will become as a result - all kept close to your heart in your own handcrafted journal of memories and found objects.

  • Sketch Strolling Exploration

Sketch Strolling is the essence of Jane’s relaxed, supportive art journaling practice. You’ll learn the skills of gentle sketching and painting techniques, journaling, and meditative practices as you create a veritable time travel machine in your pocket. Capture the spirit of place, observe, and create as you wander the city’s special places.

  • City and Countryside Sightseeing Adventures

Visit the UNESCO World Heritage sites - the Old and New Town areas of Edinburgh, the capital of Scotland with a private walking tour, guided journeys to areas of the city.

Spread your wings and take a jaunt into the stunning countryside with kilted Scotsman Brian from Personal Tours of Scotland. We’ll visit historic South Queensferry, and the romantic village of Falkland, walking in the footsteps of Jamie and Claire (for our Outlander fans!) We’ll also revel in the autumnal colors of Highland Perthshire, take a waterfall walk, and be charmed by the village of Dunkeld, and so much more.

This wonderful retreat is limited to just 10 creative souls for a unique small group experience.

My teaching style is rooted in the belief that there are no mistakes in making art—only opportunities for discovery and growth. I offer gentle guidance, encouraging you to set aside expectations so your creativity can flow freely. Together, we’ll create an open, supportive space where experimentation is celebrated, and the magic of the process can truly unfold. Wanderlust Journal @ Art & Soul Retreat, Portland

The Belle Epoque was a period of French history characterized by optimism, peace, and prosperity. The arts in Paris flourished during the Belle Epoque, with literature, music, theater, and visual art gaining extensive recognition.

In this workshop, we’ll create 4”x4” art journals to pay homage to that “Golden Age” and capture the “joie de vivre”, or joy of living, of the period. Think the Moulin Rouge and the Can-can Dance, the Eiffel Tower and 1889 World Exposition that took place in Paris, Art Nouveau and the post-Impressionists. There are so many areas of inspiration to draw from and capture in our art journals.

Art Journal Workshop in Nice, France

Sunshine and art on the French Riviera: a Vintage Travel Journal Workshop in Nice, France

My friends at The Blue Walk and I are putting together the most fabulous week in Nice, France this summer.  Spend a week focusing on you, creating, exploring, and forging new friendships with women of all ages and artistic skill levels.

We’ll spend our days strolling the walkways of Vieux Nice, the city’s vibrant old town.  With its narrow cobblestone streets and pastel-hued buildings, shops sell Nicoise soaps and Provencal textiles, as well as cheese, olives, and more.  A daily market on pedestrian street Cours Saleya offers produce and flowers, and busy bistros and outdoor eateries serving specialties like socca crepes dot the area.  You’ll feel a sense of renewal and joy taking in the gorgeous vistas, pebbled beaches, and the wonderful scent of herbes de provence.

We’ll also explore coastal villages such as Menton, Antibes, Cannes and other lovely little towns collecting treasures and capturing memories to add to a one-of-a-kind vintage travel journal that recounts the story of your experiences on the French Riviera.  I’m so excited to get there and start gathering vintage ephemera to embellish my artist book!

I’ll show you my process for putting together my signature vintage travel journals.  I’ll show you how I source materials and ephemera from these inspiring coastal villages to use in a keepsake artist book that you’ll treasure long after you return home.    We’ll create these bespoke art journals and fill them with found objects and collected memories from our time together on the French Riviera.

There are still a few spaces available for our French Riviera tour.  It promises to be a week filled with creativity, laughter, and maybe a splash (or two!) of French wine. To register, or for more information, click the button below.

A bientôt!

Tammy is so generous with her knowledge, her resources and her contagious laugh. She’ll tell you where she got that one supply you can’t live without, or how she made those particular marks in her journal, or what’s inspiring her right now; and she does it all with such a light spirit that you can’t help but to enjoy yourself. I can’t wait for the next retreat!
